Job Summary:

As a Project Engineer Intern at SteelFab, you’ll work closely with our Preconstruction and Project Management teams. You’ll take on responsibilities that will enhance your skills and prepare you for a successful career in the steel construction industry.

*This is an office-based position. Primary job duties will not be on project sites or manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Preconstruction

  1. Gather subcontractor pricing for new project estimates.
  2. Review and analyze subcontractor bids to ensure alignment with project specifications.
  3. Perform detailed material and labor take-offs.
  4. Prepare pricing recaps for senior leadership.
  5. Visit job sites to see job progress and build relationships with clients and vendors
  6. Fabrication Shop Week: Gain hands-on experience with SteelFab’s fabrication flow and production processes to deepen your understanding of the steel construction lifecycle.

Project Management

  1. Project Management duties will be based on project schedules. Example duties:
  2. Draft and issue purchase orders and subcontracts to vendors.
  3. Evaluate design drawing revisions to identify and manage scope changes effectively.
  4. Manage the coordination of construction drawings and models and review submittals.
  5. Collaborate with onsite subcontractors to identify and resolve field issues.

Job Summary:

As a Project Engineer Co-op at SteelFab, you’ll immerse yourself in the diverse and dynamic world of the construction industry. Working closely with our Project Management and Estimating teams, you’ll gain hands-on experience across various projects. During your three co-op rotations, you’ll progressively build your expertise, taking on key responsibilities that will enhance your skills and prepare you for a successful career.

Key Responsibilities:

First Rotation: Estimating

  1. Collaboration: Engage with the Estimating department to gather subcontractor pricing for new project estimates.
  2. Scope Analysis: Review and analyze subcontractor bids to ensure alignment with project specifications.
  3. Material and Labor Take-Offs: Perform detailed material and labor take-offs.
  4. Pricing Reviews: Prepare pricing recaps for senior leadership.
  5. Site Visits: Visit job sites to build relationships with clients and vendors
  6. Fabrication Shop Experience: Gain hands-on experience with the fabrication flow and production processes, deepening your understanding of the entire construction lifecycle.

Second Rotation: Project Management

  5. Client and Vendor Relations: Conduct job site visits to foster strong relationships with clients and vendors, ensuring alignment on project goals.
  6. Coordination: Manage the coordination of construction drawings and models, and review submittals for compliance and accuracy.
  7. Issue Resolution: Collaborate with onsite subcontractors to identify and resolve field issues.

Third Rotation: Estimating or Project Management

The work area will be determined based on the Co-ops’ performance/preference. The business needs of SteelFab at this time will be taken into consideration.
