As a Project Engineer at SteelFab, you’ll dive right into the fast-paced world of construction. In this full-time role, you’ll train with our Pre-Construction department for 6-12 months followed by a transition to the Project Management department. Project Managers serve as the representative for managing projects and collaborating with customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure every project is a success. You’ll build your skills by taking on the following tasks:

Key Responsibilities:

Preconstruction (6-12 months):

  • Engage with the Estimating department to gather subcontractor pricing for new project estimates.
  • Review and analyze subcontractor bids to ensure alignment with project specifications.
  • Utilize company software to perform detailed material and labor take-offs.
  • Prepare pricing recaps for senior leadership.
  • Follow up on submitted bids and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Issue Requests for Information (RFIs) to clients, ensuring all project details are clear and accurate.

Project Management:

  • Maintain and update shipping and project schedules to ensure timely delivery.
  • Write and issue purchase orders and subcontracts to vendors.
  • Prepare and issue pricing for change order requests.
  • Visit job sites to build relationships with clients and vendors
  • Analyze design drawing revisions to identify and address scope changes to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Assist in coordinating construction drawings, modeling, and submittal reviews.
  • Work with onsite subcontractors to identify and resolve field issues.
  • Supervise approximately 4–10 active projects, balancing priorities and delivering consistent, high-quality results.
  • Gain hands-on experience with the fabrication flow and production processes, deepening your understanding of the entire construction lifecycle.

Essential Job Functions

1. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
2. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
3. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
4. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
5. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
6. Repairs or replaces defective parts.
7. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
8. Lubricates and cleans parts.
9. Starts devices to test their performance.
10. Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

Qualifications and Requirements
Required: High school education or equivalent. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. over shoulder height frequently. Must have vision correctable to at least 20/50 in one eye. Must be able to read numbers, letters, and a dial face clock. Must be able to speak and understand enough English to follow simple instructions.

Preferred: Two or more years experience in manufacturing.

Job Summary:

Difficult fabrication of steel parts by reading blueprints and building to specifications using hand held power tools and track type oxy-fuel cutting apparatus with minimum supervision.

Essential Job Functions

1. Lay out rises, slopes and bevels using framing squares.
2. Lay out and build fixtures.
3. Pass tack weld test in 3F and 4F positions with F4 electrode group.
4. Interpret structural steel blue prints (shop drawings).
5. Be able to camber.
6. Operate 90° angle grinder.
7. Heat straighten using torch.
8. Operate cutting torch.
9. Utilize impact wrench to tighten bolts.
10. Operate overhead pendent controlled bridge crane safely and efficiently.
11. Fabricate truss and rolled beam.
12. Operate radiograph/ track torch.
13. Be qualified welder (class “C”).
14. Perform other duties as required by management.

Qualifications and Requirements
Required: High school education or equivalent. Basic knowledge of ASIC code of standard practices and AWS D1.1 Chapter 3 (workmanship). Ability to read tape measure to 1/16” increments and add / subtract dimensions. Ability to read weld symbols and basic knowledge of structural steel fasteners. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Should be knowledgeable in procedures 401, 402, 403, 404, 405.
Preferred: Two or more years experience in manufacturing in the steel fabrication industry. Proficiency and use of Software, equipment, machines, tools, electronic device necessary for job:
Squares (combination, bevel, frame), 90° angle grinder, crane, torch, impact wrench, radiograph/track torch, reamers, and magnetic drills.

Job Summary:

We are looking for skilled Welders and/or Fitters (knowledge of both is a plus) to cut and join metals and other materials at our York, SC facility.

Essential Job Functions

1. Perform FCAW (2G) welding. Be able to pass 2G test in FCAW on 1” thick coupon. Be able to pass 2G test in SMAW group 4 electrodes on 3/8” coupon.
2. Operate air arc to remove steel (back gouging).
3. Grind with 90° angle grinder.
4. Operate pendent controlled bridge crane safely and efficiently.
5. Read weld symbols and check weld size using weld fillet gauges.
6. Heat material to required temperature using temperature sticks and heating torch/cutting torch.
(read and follow pre-heart & interpass temperature tables.)
7. Set machines according to procedure charts.
8. Use air chipper to chip of slag.
9. Use natural gas tube heaters to pre-heat steel.
10. Operate stud welder.
11. Follow weld procedures as it applies to volts, amps & wire feed speed.
12. Heat, straighten and be able to know when to use pre-heat to offset distortion.
13. Meet requirement of Class “C” and “B” welders with greater efficiency.
14. Perform other duties as required by management.

Qualifications and Requirements
Required: High school education or equivalent. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. over shoulder height. Be able to read blueprints. FCAW (2G) SMAW (2G). Be able to read weld symbols
and be familiar with weld procedures. Must be familiar with WP1 (manual shielded metal arc welding of carbon steel) and WP2 (Flux cored are welding of carbon steel) and WP3 (Flux cored arc welding with gas shielding of carbon steel).
Preferred: Two or more years’ experience in manufacturing in the steel fabrication industry. Proficiency and use of Software, equipment, machines, tools, electronic device necessary for
job: Air arc, 90° angle grinder, crane, heating torch, cutting torch.
